SWARM was a site specific immersive experience meant to portray what it would be like if Wales was at Civil War. Inspired by David Cameron's speech in which he refers to the refugee crisis as 'a swarm of people...' SWARM aimed to treat audience as refugees and provide an insight into a fraction of what people go through.
SWARM was a mixture of community based and professional actors, as well as community youth groups. Together, we took over The Factory in Porth, Rhondda to create a transit centre for refugee's.
Conceptually, it was a case of converting a pop up space into something that could represent a thrown together transit centre created in the height of war. It was important to me that the children involved could make the space their own, and so a lot of the walls were left blank until the run of the show, where children encouraged adults to write messages of hope and peace on the walls in chalk.
"This is a production that will heighten your senses and open your eyes to what it really means to be a refugee. Superb."
